A lot of people who are thinking about making the move to Mexico are curious about grocery and food prices.
So I thought I would grab a pen and paper (and my video camera) and make a detailed list of the prices in two of the major grocery stores in Mazatlan.

Barbie: Am I correct in assuming that groceries would be less expensive in Guadalajura and Lake Chapala than in Mazatlan, since it is a coastal city and frequented by tourists
Dear Lowell, The Mazatlan area’s main income sources are agriculture, fishing, drugs, livestock breeding, commerce and industry. Tourism is pretty low on the list, and tourists don’t buy that many groceries. So, no – sorry – wrong assumption. I do stress always that retirees who truly want to stretch their dollars or pesos shop in native markets – that’s where you get the bargains…no matter which area you are in.
